Calling for a new Trustee
The last month has seen a number of changes to the Donhead St Mary Village Hall group of Trustees, as we say goodbye to Richard Ecclestone, as he steps down as Chair, after many years of sterling, committed, enthusiastic and productive work, steering the village hall through a raft of improvements and playing a central role in the many well attended and much enjoyed events. Happily he is not entirely escaping, and will continue as a Trustee. Anna McDowell, taking a breath from fund raising, overseeing the kitchen refurbishment, sourcing new radiators and setting up the film club among other hall related projects, has agreed to take on the role of Chair. Following several years of creative, supportive, positive Trustee-ship and due to pressing commitments, Kate Tinson has decided to step down, which leaves room on the committee for a new Trustee (or even two!).
What makes a good Trustee? Someone who cares about their community, is supportive of village halls, lives locally, young or young at heart, new to the village or an ‘old timer’. They might be proficient in IT, PR or desktop publishing; knowledgeable about finance or the maintenance of buildings; a good all-rounder, or simply someone keen to serve the community. The committee meets in the early evening several times a year and the meetings are informal and enjoyable. It is rewarding to be part of a small, friendly team, involved in the life of the village, supporting a building that brings the community together socially, educationally and creatively. So if you would consider becoming a Trustee, please contact Anna McDowell on 01747 829010.
Village hall events
The Wassail in January was a happy celebration of apple trees and cider. A large crowd scared malevolent spirits from the orchard; the Wassail princesses encouraged birds to the trees and we encouraged a fruitful harvest by singing, accompanied by Tatty Bogle, with dancing from the White Horse Morris; all followed by ploughman’s rolls and delicious cider and apple juice generously donated by the Donhead Apple Company, enjoyed by a roaring fire in the village hall. Pictures can be found at donheadapple.com.
The Donhead Film Club showing of Victoria and Abdul in February was a sell-out and a showing of Goodbye Christopher Robin took place in March, the last film of our first season. The new season will start in September when we plan to show The Phantom Thread starring Danial Day-Lewis followed by Finding Your Feet in October. Please visit donheadvillagehall.org for further information.
The Fish and Chip Quiz takes place on Saturday 28th April. Come and test your knowledge and enjoy a fish and chip supper. Further details at donheadvillagehall.org, with tickets (£10) available from Anna McDowell (01747 829010) or email@example.com.
The hall is hired regularly for Yoga and Pilates classes, Amity, the Donheads Gardening Club, dog training classes, the Donhead Film Club, as well as private parties and events. For booking the hall please contact Karen Ecclestone (01747 829261 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
