Looking forward to the Summer

May 31, 2019

CURRY AND QUIZ NIGHT:  Many thanks go to our quiz master, Christopher Sykes, for his innovative sensory quiz, which kept us all entertained and brought out our competitive spirits!  A big thank you also goes to our chefs in the kitchen, Richard and Karen, for preparing and cooking delicious, fresh, appetising curries, using the best ingredients and creating a pop-up curry kitchen to rival our local restaurants.

KEEP FIT OPEN MORNING:  Thank you to all of you who have made this project such a success, especially our trainer Mark Williams.  Around thirty people came to our coffee morning on Saturday 23rd February where they were able to meet Mark and discuss their individual fitness programmes and enjoy a social time over coffee and Danish pastries served by members of the Village Hall committee.  At the end of the morning Mark had a full programme.

The small lobby area next to the kitchen has been turned into a cupboard with shelves to store all the equipment needed for our three fitness sessions which started at the beginning of March.  We look forward to meeting all of you again at another coffee and pastries morning sometime at the end of April or beginning of May.  Keep an eye on our website for details.

DONHEAD FILM CLUB:  An update from Anna McDowell, who came up with the great idea of films being shown regularly at the Village Hall and who has created and overseen the very successful film club, showing a varied programme of films enjoyed by many:
‘When you read this we would have shown our last film of the season which runs from September to March.  When we started this club over a year ago we never thought it would grow to become such a success.  We know our Village Hall is small and it sits comfortably 42, so it is very encouraging that we average around 39 film enthusiasts each evening.  Thank you all for supporting us.  Our thanks also go to all at Ludwell Stores for selling the tickets together with Fran Robson, Michael Thomas and Patrick McDowell for their help with organising the chairs, bar and ticketing on the evening.  We are also indebted to our projectionist Paul Schilling for the high quality of the projection and sound.  Hope to see you all again in September.’

ROB HALLIGAN CONCERT:   On 30th March the celebrated singer and song-writer, Rob Halligan, has been invited to entertain us.  A pop up Bistro/café style evening with Caribbean themed food being the order of the evening.  If, by the time this arrives on your doorstep, you have missed this event, do add your name to the Village Hall events mailing list, so as not to miss out on our next concert!

EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO

HERBAL TALK: We are very pleased to host an evening’s talk,  ‘Our Healing Garden’ with local Medical Herbalist Julie Wood.  Julie will also be running a day’s course, ‘Healing with Plants; an Introduction to Herbal Remedies’.

‘I work with plants in many ways, using them in my healing practice but also creating a deeper communication between people, plants and the spirit of our land.  My work fills my heart with the songs of the plants, with joy.  I have worked with Neal’s Yard Remedies for 15 years, making herbal tinctures, offering herbal advice on the Customer Care Team, teaching the Introduction to Herbal Medicine courses and am co-author of their latest book ‘Complete Wellbeing’.  I am now a registered Plant Spirit Medicine practitioner expanding my Healing with Plants work to deeper depths.  I also enjoy my involvement with Shaftesbury Abbey, leading walks and talks focusing on Anglo Saxon plant healing.  And to weave this all together I am training in native British shamanism.  That’s me!’ Julie Wood, Medical Herbalist, MNIMH
